2020 Reading & Writing Goals

Every year I go into that Goodreads Reading Challenge link and tell myself that I’m gonna do it. I’m gonna read a fuckton of books. And I never actually read a fuckton of books, which is more disappointing to myself than probably anyone else. But it comes from a place of ‘I used to be such a voracious reader! What happened? Why don’t I read as much anymore?’

I’m still trying to figure that out.

But I also recently realized that how well I write is directly tied into how much I read — which, yeah, seems like a given. But in order to continue working on my WIP that I feel like I’ve been stuck on for ages, I knew that this year I wanted to dedicate real time to getting cozy with a new book. I think in the past I wanted to be One Of Those People That Posted Pretty Photos On Instagram and Took Really Cute Photos Of Books etc. etc., and maybe I can still do that, but right now I just wanted to focus on one thing:

reading more.

Starting 2020 off…

I am two books into 2020 and honestly, they’ve evened out. I’ve read one book that I couldn’t finish, just by sheer virtue of how much I could not handle how ridiculous the book was, and then I had another book that I devoured within a day. So… it’s up in the air. My goal in general is to just read more, and I’m already doing that, so… success?

I’m trying to read more this year because I find that when I read more I have better success with my own writing projects. So I’m really hoping that the way that I’ve started off is indicative of how the rest of the year is going to go with regards to my reading goals!

So let’s start with the good.

If you want to write, write.

I love writing. Whether it’s writing a research paper, writing an article, or even writing a book, I love writing. I also love reading. Pretty much anything. Reading is fascinating to me and I love the depth of information that you can acquire just from reading a 300-word piece.

But enough about that.

I wanted to write about books (because, since I write books, it only makes sense that I’d want to write… about books as well), so that’s what I’m here to do. I knew I needed to have to do two things in order to start this blog.

  1. I needed to read a book.
  2. I needed to blog about it.

And so, here we are. I’m very excited to ~*start this new journey*~ because it’s been a minute since I’ve actually enjoyed blogging (and haven’t had to do it as a class requirement. I once had to write a blog post about a local awards show and gush about how fabulous it was. It was not, in fact, fabulous.)

Here you’ll find reviews, gushing posts about books I’m excited about reading, things I’m looking forward to, and probably a bit of librarian/educator chatter (which is what I am, so, it’s to be expected!) I’m a lover of YA and will probably be focusing mostly on that, but I’m a genre-bouncer and lover of good writing… so anything’s possible.

And so, we go.

  1. Reading books.
  2. Blogging about them.

*Hamilton voice* Let’s go.
